Bio

CHARACTER INFO
PB: Marshall Lancaster
Journal: [info]lanky_frankie
Full Name: Frank Arthur Longbottom
Nicknames: Whatever you wanna throw at him. He'd probably like you to consider that a challenge.
Birthdate and Age: March 5th, 1953. 23 years old.
Blood Status: Pureblood
Location: Blackpool, Lancashire England

WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY
First showing of magical ability: His older brother pushed him off a wall when he was six. Frank bounced.
Wand: Holly and manticore hair, 13 inches.

Holly. Strong protective magic and light-hearted magic. Courageous
magic, and dream magic. These people tend to be strong on the
defensive, but are fun company. They are very often class clowns, and
uplifting to others who may be depressed.

Manticore hair: A core that is used for producing a protection (a
shield to protect someone/something from any spells or charms, except
the Killing Curse) is Manticore hair. Any wand that has this core may
choose someone who is brave, loyal, strong, and fierce.

Favorite Hex/Charm/Potion/Curse: Sonorus. Great for sneaking up behind people, he used to have a right laugh with the ickle first years. His booming voice is enough to scare anyone, let alone amplified several times over.
Patronus: River Otter
Why? Related to play, laughter and curiousity. "People born under the sign of the Otter are full of hope and confidence. They are active (particularly intellectually), well-liked and altruistic people. In addition, they are blessed with a wonderful sense of humor. Since they have a very keen sense of justice. Otters cannot tolerate the fact that very privileged people exist side-by-side with people who are poor."
Boggart: Giant cockroach
Why? He moved into a shared flat with some other guys during his Auror training: it was a nasty, grotty flat with a severe pest problem. One night he woke up to a light tickling on his face, looked down, and saw the twitching antennae of a massive brown cockroach crawling up his cheek. He checked under the mattress and pillows every night before he went to sleep for six months.

WORKING LIFE
Profession and workplace: Auror/Order member
Time spent in job: 2 years + 3 years training/5 years
Day to Day Tasks: tracking down dark wizards, following up leads/initiation and training of new members, accompanying them on missions
How does your character like their profession? bloody loves it/bloody LOVES it.
How did they get into their profession? His dad is an Auror, and he worships his dad. Plus it all just sounded damn exciting./He couldn't sit around and do nothing while his friends were going about fearing for their lives, just because of who they were or weren't related to. When Dumbledore and Moody approached him after he graduated from Hogwarts he jumped at the chance to help.
What are their long term career goals? Long term? Frank doesn’t really think long term. “Kick Dark Wizard arse” is about as far as he’s got, to be honest. He tends to think more in terms of his personal life than his career: as a boy from a very large closeknit family, he hopes to have kids and settle down someday. Two boys and a girl would be nice.

RELATIONSHIPS
Friends:*
Enemies: Rodolphus Lestrange
Orientation: straight
Have they had any past relationships worth taking note of? not really, but when he goes with a girl it's usually for the long term. He's not into flings and one night stands.
Are they currently interested in anyone? nope.

TECHNICALITIES
Height: 6ft 4
Weight: slightly below average. He’s a big lad, but there’s no meat on him.
Hair color: dull brown, floppy
Eye Color: grey
Distinguishing features:
- Raging 70s sideburns, which he’s very particular about.
- Insane grin, which very rarely leaves his face.
- Deep baritone voice. He was actually in the Hogwarts choir, though Flitwick had to constantly tell him off for singing "revised" versions of the hymns.
- Thick northern accent. Very jocular in tone, and LOUD. He's a bit of a foghorn.
- Lounges everywhere. Lounges in chairs, sprawls about on sofas, and drapes himself over beds. He's got a lot of body to have to spread out.
- Stoops down to their eye line when addressing girls (who are all considerably shorter than him) Calls them "love" and "my sweet". Pulls out chairs with a great flourish. This is an extension of the typically sexist (but well-meaning) Northern man way of thinking; Frank's quite chivalrous and old fashioned, and treats girls like.. well, girls. Delicate little flowers. Some might find it a bit patronising, but he does it out of kindness.

LISTS
Likes: Muggle music, particularly T.Rex, The Beatles and northern soul, dancing to said muggle music, muggle fashion, Prefectdom, marmite, Guinness, food, Quidditch (supports Appleby)
Dislikes: Snobbery, disharmony, paperwork, football (what kind of sport is that? "non contact"?! Bloody nancy, poncing game.)

IN DEPTH
Appearance
Frank is an obscenely tall albeit slightly skinny guy with a mop of brown hair and a permanent grin on his face. He wears muggle fashions and is usually seen in one of his favourite tank tops and shirt with the massive collars, brown flared trousers etc. His height has made him stoop a little when he walks, and it's a very long, loping sort of walk.

Personality
Frank has an extremely sunny disposition, rarely seen to be in a mood or angry at anyone. He's incredibly jocular and very playful, teasing even. He has a coarse sense of humour that can extend to bad language, pranks and toilet humour - in short, he's a bloke's bloke, but he behaves himself when he has to. He doesn't like to see anyone troubled, and despite his teasing nature he will sit and listen to people’s problems with a sympathetic ear - he's not great at solving them for you, but he'll listen. He finds that important.
His caring nature made him a natural choice for Prefect back in his Hogwarts days. He was extremely well liked by the students as he saw his role as more of a sort of counselor than a disciplinarian: making sure the first years know their way around the castle, warning students away from the studying fifth years during exam time, smoothing things over with Filch when someone accidentally sets something on fire whilst revising for Potions, things like that. Now that he's enlisted in the Order and in charge of the new recruits, very little has changed. Frank treats the new members the way he treated his students, and is always up for one-to-one tuition and guidance, not to mention spending a little social time with them whenever he can. He's a natural leader and is great at rallying and boosting people's spirits....Doesn't mean that he won’t have a bit of fun with the new intake of Order members, though. Beware, he's one for pranking.

History
Frank comes from a long established Pureblood family, based in Blackpool in the north of England. The family essentially live among muggles, so their views on Pureblood snobbery and the impending wars are very dim.
There’s is a large and close-knit family, with many generations living extremely close to one another. Augusta's brother, Algie, lives just up the road with his wife Enid, and they regularly get together for Sunday dinner and family celebrations (The Longbottoms can find any excuse for a celebratory family meal; all the women in Franks family are excellent cooks, which might explain his appetite for food). Aunts, uncles and cousins will often descend on the Longbottom household, and Frank often feels as though he was raised by a bloody army of witches, rather than just one woman. It's a very matriarchal family, and the Longbottom men tend to keep well out of family politics; Most of their wives are considerably formidable, particularly when put together in charge of cooking a feast. (The Longbottom men have witnessed many an argument over the consistency of someone's gravy, or how many more minutes an apple pie will take. They've all learned to stay the hell out the way of the kitchen during family meals).
Frank's dad, Arthur, is an Auror; a profession that Frank hopes to take up himself. He hero worships his dad a little, sharing a love for Quidditch and regularly going to watch games together on weekends. Frank tries to make his dad proud wherever possible, and Arthur makes his pride in his son known just as often. He's a big softie when it comes to both his son and his wife, though perhaps a bit henpecked.
Franks mum, Augusta, is the very opposite of her husband. She is stern, unforgiving and always pushing Frank to do better. Despite her apparent hardness on her son, she is known to brag about him to anyone who'll listen. It's a fierce sort of pride that she has in him; she may criticise her son, but woe betide anyone else who dares to try it. She once hit Frank's third year DADA Teacher for suggesting that Frank "was too soft for a career in Defence " at parents evening, much to the amusement of the entire student body (not to mention Dumbledore's). Frank secretly refers to her as "the old witch", but he's very fond of her and accepts her methods.

Where's you're character's mind at at this point in the RP?
Frank lives from day to day. Often his mind is on his latest wards at the Order, his "little minions" as he calls them: how they're doing, problems they're having, how to get the best out of them. He's shaping up to be a great Auror and loves the job immensely, but he's a born teacher and really thrives when he's coaxing the best out of others. He gets a funny kind of hope out of them, things aren't so grim when he can watch them growing and improving.

How would your character interact with characters who are on the same side, opposing side, or neutral?
Same Side: If you're fighting with him, you're as good as his brother. If you have the courage to speak out against blood supremacy he'll show you a great deal of respect for having done so.
Neutral: Fighting isn’t for everyone. Frank isn’t entirely sure how someone with all the facts can remain neutral at a time like this, but if that’s your position on the matter then so be it. People are scared. He knows that.
Apposing: Scummy supremacist bastards. Wankers. If he gets a whiff of the pro-Voldie about you he'll voice his dislike as loudly and rudely as he can.

How does your character see his/herself in comparison to others?
Considering he's gifted enough to be enlisted as an Auror, Frank doesn't really have much of an ego. He sees most people as equals unless they do something quite spectacularly stupid to show him otherwise. It takes a lot to lose Frank's respect, he's a humble guy with a forgiving nature. He does see himself as a bit of a leader, though: he has a tendency to "adopt" those younger than him as honorary little brothers/sisters and will dictate to them accordingly, but he wont ever really look down on them (except literally, ha); he just likes to nurture them. He'd make an excellent father in that respect.
